UQ Lakes in St Lucia is always a favourite, but jacaranda season gives it something extra. On this October afternoon, the purple blooms were everywhere, carpeting the ground and floating in the air. It was the perfect spot for Maryam & Pasha’s pre-wedding session, with quiet paths, lakeside views, and plenty of room to relax and be themselves.
Maryam took to the camera straight away, comfortable and natural with every pose. For Pasha, it was a first, but you wouldn’t know it. He was up for anything, taking direction from both Maryam and me, and pretty soon he was laughing and joining in like a pro. The two of them brought a picnic, settled in under the trees, and shared champagne and strawberries. There was plenty of time for playful moments, quiet chats, and a few affectionate looks that needed no encouragement.
Maryam & Pasha are a Persian couple who moved to Australia with their whole family, which brought an extra warmth to the day. They’re easy to be around, fun, and clearly a great team, something that comes through in every photo. After their wedding, I was lucky enough to photograph some of their friends’ celebrations too, always full of tradition and joy.
Having a relaxed session like this before the big day is about more than just photos. It’s a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera, find your rhythm together, and see how easy it can be. By the time the wedding comes around, the nerves are out of the way and you know what to expect.
Looking back, this day at UQ Lakes was just the beginning. Their wedding and all the celebrations that followed were something special.
